Tips For Immune Support

Immune Support

I have been getting a lot of questions lately about things I do/take for my immune system.  In addition to acupuncture, I have my family and I on a few supplements and herbs to support immunity so I thought I would share what we take.

-Vitamin D3: living in the desert you’d think we get enough vitamin D but avoiding the hot sun in AZ and using sunscreen often leaves us deficient.

Elderberry: I make my own elderberry syrup that the kids love in my instant pot with this recipe:
  • 3½ cups water
  • 2/3 cup dried elderberries ( I get on amazon) put in the instant pot for 9 minutes, then strain the berries and add
  • 1/2 cup honey

Probiotics:  I like the garden of life brand and give my kids the raw powdered version (which is tasteless and they don’t notice I’m giving them)

Jade Screen formula (Yu Ping Feng San): this is a t rational Chinese formula to boost immunity and they make versions for kids too. It has astragalus as a main ingredient which has been well researched for immune support. You can also take astragalus by itself for a boost.

Comprehensive Immune Support: This is a mushroom complex that I swear by.  In the two years I have been taking this daily I haven’t had more than a slight head-cold.

All these supplements are preventative, to boost the immune system, once you are coming down with a cold there are different formulas to take depending on the symptoms.

Yin Qiao San is a great formula to have on hand to take at the first sign of a sore throat.

Gan Mao Ling is another formula to take if you start feeling under the weather, without the emphasis on the  sore throat.
Zinc: Good to take at the start of a cold

NAC: This is an amino acid that helps support respiratory function

When you get past the early stages of an illness there are lots of other formulas depending on symptoms.

I buy many of my supplements from Emerson Ecologics instead of amazon so that I know they are from reputable sources.  You can order supplements and herbs with them at 10% off at this link
